Here’s just some of our recent results.

In our Classic Selection Service, our only selection in Race 6 at Belmont on May 11th, Taurine, conditioned by Christophe  Clemente, paid $22 to win, despite being 3-1 in the Morning Line.

We also had a terrific 3-horse exacta box in a maiden turf race this past Sunday, (May 15, 2016). All Revved Up, our top choice,finished 2nd to our 3rd choice, Mongolian Prince, a Todd Pletcher first timer. The three-horse exacta box paid $257

There’s more info below on our Classic Service, but let’s just touch upon our Best Bets Selection Service. The collection rates for our Best Bets Selection Service have just been astounding! From 3-30-2016 through 5-17-2016 there were 44 Best Bet selections.

  • 67% won - average win mutuel of $3.87 & 30.5% win ROI
  • 81% placed - average place mutuel of $2.79 & 13.5% place ROI
  • 93% showed - average show mutuel of $2.33 & 8.5% show ROI

The above collection rates for the Best Bets Selection Service are terrific, and while the prices are not long shots, the very high collection rates allow you to collect at a steady pace, plus you can leverage your wagers using a parlay or square root of profits. With collection rates this high, an 8.5% show return can easily become a 14% - 15% return using a two or three horse show parlay. Similarly, a 13.5 % place ROI can also get a significant boost using a parlay, or the square root of profits approach, or a % of bankroll money management tactic.

We'll continue this below, but first here's the Special!

In getting back to our Classic Selection Service, we’ve been running it successfully for three years now with a high degree of client satisfaction. Over 65% of our subscribers have been on board for over 2 years. To give you an idea of recent results, since Sunday, May 15, 2016, nine of the last 10 days have been profitable. And while isolating horses likely to win or finish in-the-money gets you as a handicapper out of the starting gate, money management is the key as to whether or not you show a profit.

For example, on Friday, May 13, for Race 5 at Belmont I gave out a “long shot to watch” – the #6, Attractive Ride, 10-1 in the morning line. I noted:

  • the entry has some strong signals, including that he just loves Belmont;
  • however, as you might imagine with a 10-1 MLine there are some counterbalancing negatives;
  • I planned a 1.5 unit win bet if post-time odds were @6-1 and a 5 units show bet not odds dependent;
  • if you like exotics then ½ unit exacta, #11, #5 over #6 and ½ unit exacta box, #11 and #5

Attractive Ride went off too low for a win wager, less than 4-1, and since Attractive Ride ran out, the show wager was lost. However, the other two contenders, #11 Storm Pursuit, and #5 Rapid Rouge, finished 1-2, and combined for a $37.20 exacta. For ½ a unit, that is $18.60 which is enough to have a profit on the race. (For the record, #5 Rouge, finished in a dead heat for 2nd, so there was another exacta as well, as #13 Collin’s Smile, and this likely reduced the payoff a bit. Still it was enough to ensure a profit for the race, and added to the profit already earned that day as well.)

Results for the Kentucky Derby was spot on. Our top four contenders for our complimentary Derby picks finished, in order, 1-2-3-4. I noted:

  • I planned to make a 2.5 – 3 unit win bet on the #11 if @6-1 or>
  • a 9 unit show bet on the # 13
  • a ½ unit exacta box on the the #13, #11, #5, #14,
  • if you wish to put extra money to in the box to cover the #17 and #20, likely to be cost effective, or, the less expensive way to wheel top four over the #17 and #20
  • also making:
  • a 1 unit win bit on the #20 if @18-1 or>
  • a 1 unit win bet on the #17 if @15-1 or>
  • a 1 unit win bet on the #14 if @ 15-1 or>
  • a 1.5 unit win bet on the #5 @12-1 or>

As you can see from the above selections, the only entry which made the minimum win odds for a wager was the Mike Smith horse who went off well above 20-1, (25-1) and thus the only horse which received a win bet. I take a good amount of time into making my own odds line, and if the horse is not offering fair odds value, I pass. (I do use the computer contingency win wager via twinspires.com which has worked out well. If the horse does not meet the minimum win odds, the wager does not go in.)

The other factor that is key to earning a profit is sticking with the minimum odds you deem fair for any win wager. If the odds go below my minimum threshold, it is rare that I will still make any win wager. Again, most of the time I use twinspires.com for a computerized contingency wager. There are many times when the odds on a selection are below the fair odds for a win wager, and often these entries run out in the win hole but still pay decent place and show mutuels. You can still earn a very decent, 25, 30% ROI this way.
