While it was in 1956 when my father, Tom Worth, began advertising his methods, it was actually 70 years ago when his first handicapping essays were published, although to the best of what I remember from speaking with him, they were NOT written under his most well known Pen Name, Tom Worth, but rather under either Jack Thorley or Ira Johnson.
An Army buddy had introduced him to handicapping while serving together in WWII. He quickly developed a passion for it! Once home, he continued to follow horse racing and soon began to research, develop, test and write methods.
While he did occasionally 'self publish' in his early years, he mainly wrote articles for publications such as American Turf Monthly, and therefore I believe his very first writings were published in those national publications.
To celebrate our 70th anniversary of now two generations dedicated to handicapping, watch for occasional promotions throughout the rest of 2019.
